Marid Castle
Mard Castle is a historical military castle located in the city of Dumat Al-Jandal in the Al-Jawf region, about 50 km from the city of Sakaka. It dates back to the first century AD, and the oldest mention of it dates back to the third century AD, when Queen Al-Zaba (240 – 274) mentioned it when she invaded Dumat Al-Jandal and Tayma and was unable to storm the castle, so she said: “Mard rebelled and the albaq was strong.
” The castle is located on a hill approximately 620 m above sea level, and overlooks the city of Dumat Al-Jandal, which is affiliated with the Al-Jawf region, from the western side, which contributed to the strength of its fortifications, as the viewer from the castle can overlook all parts of the town and see those coming to it from far distances. Mard Castle was named after its rebellion and resistance to those who tried to storm it, as mentioned by Yaqut Al-Hamawi
